Leavenworth, WA (August 20, 2025) — Four people were hospitalized following a serious collision Monday afternoon on US Highway 2 near the Nason Creek Rest Area. The crash was reported at approximately 4:30 p.m. and involved multiple vehicles, according to the Washington State Patrol.
According to reports, Troy J. Peterson, 59, of Fort Pierce, Florida, was driving a black 2021 Kia Soul westbound when he attempted to pass two slower vehicles by crossing the double-yellow lines. His Kia collided head-on with a white 2025 Kia Soul driven by 24-year-old Kevin Chen of Philadelphia. Chen’s vehicle spun out and struck a parked 2019 Freightliner truck, while Peterson’s car also collided with a 2021 Big Tex trailer hauled by 65-year-old Nathan Hayes of Redmond.
Chen and his passenger, Annie Yang, 24, were rushed to Harborview Medical Center. Peterson was also taken to Harborview, while his passenger, Jennifer A. Dakan-Peterson, 51, was transported to Central Washington Hospital. No further injuries were reported. All lanes of US 2 were shut down temporarily as authorities cleared the scene and began their investigation.
