Fultonville, NY (June 26, 2025) — A dump truck veered off Interstate 90 and crashed into a residential home Tuesday morning after the driver reportedly lost consciousness, according to New York State Police.
According to reports, the crash occurred at approximately 7:31 a.m. on June 24. The driver, 63-year-old Merwin Wells of Fort Plain, was operating a 2025 Peterbilt dump truck heading eastbound on Interstate 90 when he suffered a medical event and lost control.
The vehicle veered into the median, broke through the center guide rail, crossed all westbound lanes, and then breached the north-side guide rail. After descending a steep embankment and cutting through a wooded area, the truck crashed directly into a residence on Washington Street, destroying the home’s bedroom.
At the time of the collision, the home was occupied by a 51-year-old man and his two adult sons, aged 24 and 20. Fortunately, none of the family members were in the impacted room, and no one inside the home was injured. Wells sustained minor injuries and was transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville.
