Vinita, OK (June 21, 2025) — A dramatic crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike Friday morning initially believed to be fatal was later clarified after the truck driver was found to have only minor injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
According to reports, the crash occurred at the eastbound Vinita exit near mile marker 289. Troopers say Nurbin Remigio Hernandez-Guzman, the driver of a passenger car, lost control of his vehicle and struck a semi-truck, causing the semi to veer off the overpass and explode. The truck partially dangled over U.S. Highway 60 below.
Initially reported as a fatality, it was later confirmed that the truck driver survived with only minor injuries. The driver of the passenger car fled the scene on foot and was located about three hours later by Vinita police in a nearby creek bed. He surrendered without incident and is now in custody.
OHP has taken over the investigation. Roadways at the scene have since reopened.
