According to the Illinois State Police, the collision occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. on September 6 at the intersection of Bircher Road and Fisher Drive in Geneva. Investigators said a 2005 Toyota Corolla was attempting to turn onto Bircher Road when it was struck by a 2020 BMW X3 traveling eastbound.

The impact pushed the Toyota east of the intersection. Tragically, the couple inside the Corolla—an 85-year-old man and his 88-year-old wife, both Geneva residents—were killed at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released, pending family notification.

The BMW veered into a wooded area and caught fire. Fire crews responded quickly and extinguished the flames. The BMW driver, an 18-year-old male, and two passengers were treated at the scene.
