Auburn, ME (October 10, 2024) – Two Maine men were seriously injured in a crash on Route 4 in Auburn late Monday morning, with one of them remaining in critical condition, police report.
The crash occurred shortly after 10:25 a.m. on the stretch of Turner Road between East Waterman Road and the Turner town line. According to investigators, a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by 36-year-old Albert Deschaine of Peru, hydroplaned while heading north on Route 4, crossing into oncoming traffic. The truck collided with a 2022 Toyota SUV traveling south.
Deschaine was ejected from the truck upon impact and was taken to Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) in Lewiston for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV, 78-year-old James Halliday of Auburn, remains in critical condition after being transferred from CMMC to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The section of Route 4 was closed for several hours. Authorities cite speed and road conditions as potential factors, but the investigation is ongoing.
