Moss Hill, TX (September 11, 2025) – A 21-year-old man from Lufkin tragically lost his life Tuesday afternoon in a collision involving a semi-truck along a stretch of State Highway 146 near the Snake River Subdivision.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the deadly crash occurred around 12:00 p.m. on September 9. Investigators report that a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 25-year-old Mateyah Janea Powell of Beaumont was heading northbound on SH 146 and attempted to turn into a gravel pit driveway.
While turning, the semi-truck moved into the path of a southbound 2018 Ford Fusion, driven by the Lufkin man. The vehicles collided, resulting in fatal injuries to the Fusion’s driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
