Romulus, NY (August 29, 2025) – A serious collision involving a garbage truck and a pickup truck left two people injured Monday morning in the Town of Romulus.
According to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. on August 25 at the intersection of State Route 96 and State Route 414. Authorities say a Casella garbage truck was traveling north on Route 96 when it struck a black Chevrolet Silverado that failed to yield while turning left from Route 414.
The collision impacted the driver’s side of the Silverado, trapping the driver inside. Fire crews had to extricate him from the vehicle. He suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Upstate Medical Hospital by Mercy Flight. A passenger in the pickup was also flown to the same hospital via LifeNet with injuries.
The garbage truck driver was evaluated at the scene and did not require further medical care. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene. State Route 96 was closed for several hours for investigation.
