Jefferson County, MO (January 17, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash in Jefferson County led to injuries and vehicle damage Wednesday afternoon when one vehicle entered the highway from the shoulder and collided with another traveling southbound.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 1:16 p.m. on January 14 along the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 61, north of Schmidt Road.
Authorities report that a 2023 Rivian EDV, driven by a 27-year-old man from Florissant, was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway when it reentered traffic and struck a 2016 Kia Soul, driven by an 80-year-old man from Crystal City. The impact caused the Kia Soul to overturn, sustaining total damage.
The Kia’s driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Joachim Plattin Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment. The Rivian driver was reportedly uninjured and drove away from the scene.
