Venice, FL (May 7, 2025) – A tragic box truck crash along Interstate 75 in Sarasota County claimed the life of a 36-year-old man on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just after 5 p.m. on May 5 on the northbound side of I-75, north of the Laurel Road exit near Venice. Investigators say the driver of the box truck, a 26-year-old man from Opa-locka, lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway, struck a traffic sign, and overturned.
The 36-year-old passenger, a man from Hollywood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The names of those involved have not been released, pending next-of-kin notification.
