Lemont, IL (August 25, 2025) – A fatal wrong-way collision early Sunday morning left one driver dead and another seriously injured on Interstate 355 in Lemont, according to the Illinois State Police.
According to reports, troopers were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. on August 24 near the Des Plaines River after a northbound vehicle entered the southbound lanes of I-355 and crashed head-on into another car.
The wrong-way driver, a man from Morris, Illinois, died at the scene. His identity has not yet been made public. The second driver, a man from Lockport, Illinois, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
All southbound lanes of I-355 were shut down for several hours as investigators worked to examine the crash site and remove the wreckage. Authorities have not said whether impairment was a factor.
