Newburg, MD (August 20, 2025) – A woman in her 20s was seriously injured early Wednesday after her SUV collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on the Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge.
According to reports, the crash was reported just before 2:00 a.m. on August 20 along U.S. Route 301. Maryland Transportation Authority Police said the SUV was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it struck a tractor-trailer near the middle of the bridge.
Fire crews worked for more than 30 minutes to extricate the woman, whose condition worsened during the rescue effort. A medevac helicopter was requested but grounded due to weather, forcing emergency crews to transport her by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital in Virginia. She was stabilized at the scene before transfer. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.
Southbound traffic on the bridge was closed for several hours while responders cleared the scene. MDTA Police are continuing the investigation.
