Montgomery County, KS (August 28, 2025) – A serious rear-end collision on U.S. Highway 160 east of Independence left three people hospitalized Wednesday morning.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 11:15 a.m. on August 27, 2025, near mile marker 408, about two miles east of Independence. Officials say a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by 28-year-old Colbie Cheyenne Sanders of Parsons, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 160 when it struck the rear of a 2024 Chevrolet Trax that had stopped for traffic turning onto CR 4500.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 45-year-old William Dale Wullenschneider of Independence, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to Labette Health Center. A passenger in the Chevrolet, 52-year-old Timothy Andrew Lefever, also of Independence, was similarly injured and taken to the same hospital. Sanders was taken to Coffeyville Regional Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
