Howard County, MD (January 9, 2025) – A fatal three-car collision early Thursday morning closed Route 97 in both directions near Roxbury Mills Road for nearly five hours, causing significant delays, according to Howard County Police.
The crash occurred around 5 a.m. when the driver of a 2004 Honda Pilot traveling northbound crossed the centerline and struck a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, followed by a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse, both heading southbound. The Honda came to a stop against the northbound guardrail.
A passenger in the Honda, identified only as a man, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and front passenger of the Honda were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where the front passenger remains in critical condition. Another backseat passenger sustained minor injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet Silverado were treated at Carroll Hospital for injuries. The two occupants of the Chevrolet Traverse were not seriously injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
