Broward County, FL (January 9, 2025) – A fatal wrong-way crash early Thursday morning on Florida’s Turnpike claimed the life of a 23-year-old man and left a 55-year-old woman with serious injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred just after 1:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike near Red Road. Authorities reported that the woman, driving a 2010 Honda Element SUV, was traveling the wrong way in the inside lane when she collided head-on with a 2016 Honda Civic driven by the 23-year-old man from Cutler Bay.
The impact caused the Element to overturn after hitting a concrete barrier, while the Civic spun out. Tragically, the young man did not survive the crash, and the woman was hospitalized with incapacitating injuries.
The crash closed all lanes of the Turnpike between Red Road and University Drive for several hours as authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
