Sedgwick County, KS (September 2, 2025) – One person was hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision during rainy conditions on K-96 Monday evening in Sedgwick County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m. on September 1 along the eastbound lanes of K-96 near milepost 277.6. A 2018 Ford F-150, driven by 26-year-old Mauro Garcia of Stafford, Kansas, was attempting to pass another vehicle when it hydroplaned and struck a 2006 Peterbilt truck.
The Peterbilt, driven by 39-year-old Neri Aguillar-Barros of Lowell, Arkansas, had been slowing down and shifting lanes to allow space for a disabled vehicle on the shoulder. Both vehicles remained upright after impact.
Garcia was transported to Wesley Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. Aguillar-Barros was not injured in the incident. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Wet weather conditions likely played a contributing role in the crash.
