Hanover, VA (September 24, 2025) – An investigation is underway following a deadly single-vehicle crash that erupted into flames after gunfire was reported on Interstate 295 in Hanover County.
According to the Virginia State Police, the incident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, in the southbound lanes near Exit 38 at Pole Green Road. Authorities say a 2011 white Ford F-250 truck was traveling southbound when it veered off the roadway, crashed, and caught fire.
Prior to the crash, the truck had reportedly been shot at by an unidentified vehicle. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. VSP is working to identify the deceased and notify the next of kin.
All lanes near Route 301 at mile marker 39 remain closed. Traffic is currently being diverted at Exit 41 as investigators continue to gather evidence.
