Arlington, VA (September 29, 2026) – Three young people were killed and another was critically injured early Monday after a vehicle crashed during a police pursuit on Interstate 395 in Arlington.
According to the Virginia State Police, a trooper spotted a vehicle shortly before 1 a.m. on September 28 that had been reported stolen from Prince George’s County. Police said the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle on Stevenson Avenue in Alexandria, but the driver continued away from the scene.
Authorities said a pursuit followed as the vehicle entered Interstate 395 at a high rate of speed and traveled north toward Shirlington Road. As the driver attempted to take the exit, the vehicle went out of control on the ramp and struck the right concrete barrier.
Four people were inside the vehicle, all of whom police initially believed were juveniles. One passenger died at the scene. The driver and two other passengers were transported to area hospitals, where the driver and one passenger later died.
The fourth passenger remained hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Virginia State Police reported that none of the four occupants were wearing seat belts.
The crash closed the Interstate 395 exit ramp to Shirlington for approximately five hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
