Lassen County, CA (January 30, 2025) – A devastating multi-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 395, north of Waldron Lane, claimed the lives of three individuals early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. when a 46-year-old Susanville woman, driving a 2014 Dodge southbound, attempted an unsafe pass. The maneuver did not allow enough clearance for oncoming traffic. At the same time, a 67-year-old Janesville man was traveling northbound in a 2022 Toyota. Both drivers swerved onto the east paved shoulder to avoid a collision, but their vehicles’ front ends collided and came to rest.
Shortly after, a 52-year-old Susanville man stopped on the west shoulder and exited his vehicle to assist. As he approached the crash, a 60-year-old Janesville woman driving a 2018 Ford northbound struck him and then hit the Dodge.
Tragically, the Dodge driver, the Toyota driver, and the good Samaritan all died at the scene. The Ford driver remained at the crash site and cooperated with authorities.
