Guilderland, NY (November 22, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision caused by distracted driving on the New York State Thruway left one driver seriously injured on the evening of November 19.
According to the New York State Police, troopers from Troop T responded around 7:55 p.m. to a crash on Interstate 90 westbound between Exits 25 and 25A in the town of Guilderland. Investigators say Evan Robert Hope, 45, of Jefferson, was driving a 2011 Toyota SUV when he struck a 2007 Kia sedan parked on the shoulder due to a prior breakdown. Hope admitted he had been checking his phone at the time of the impact.
Hope was taken to Ellis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Kia driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center. Westbound lanes of I-90 were closed for more than an hour as crews responded and cleared the scene.
