Carroll County, VA (December 1, 2025) – One person is dead and several others were injured after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 Northbound early Sunday morning in Carroll County.
According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred just after 5:00 a.m. on December 1 at the 8-mile marker. Emergency crews from Hillsville Fire Department, Cana Fire Department, and Carroll County Fire Rescue responded to the scene, which involved several passenger vehicles and two tractor-trailers.
Authorities say the crash began when a pickup truck traveling in the left lane rear-ended a tractor-trailer, then veered off into the median. Shortly after, the driver of a 2020 Tesla in the left lane switched into the right lane and struck a second tractor-trailer, then moved back into the left lane and collided with the original tractor-trailer.
The Tesla driver was trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released. Several others sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
