New Madrid County, MO (December 26, 2025) – A tragic collision on United States Highway 62 just days before Christmas claimed one life and seriously injured two others in New Madrid County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around 5:45 p.m. on December 23, approximately three miles east of Malden. A 2014 Ford Escape, driven westbound by a 63-year-old woman from Gideon, reportedly crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2004 Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep’s driver, a 60-year-old man from Risco, was pronounced dead at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner George Delisle. His passenger, a 45-year-old man from New Madrid, suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

The driver of the Ford Escape also sustained serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital. Both vehicles were completely totaled and removed by Walker Towing.
