Kansas City, MO (January 5, 2026) – A high-speed police chase originating in Independence ended in a deadly crash on New Year’s Eve in a Kansas City neighborhood. The incident resulted in one fatality and left multiple others critically injured, according to local authorities.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Independence police began pursuing a stolen white Ford F-250 around 8:00 p.m. on December 31. The suspect led officers on a two-mile chase, running a red light at the intersection of 9th Street and Benton Boulevard, where he struck another pickup truck and a Nissan Cube that was stopped at the light.
All three occupants of the Nissan Cube sustained critical injuries, and the driver tragically died the following morning. The suspect then crashed into a nearby yard, clipping an RV and colliding with a trailer. Authorities reported the suspect fled the scene on foot and has not yet been apprehended.
