Poplar Bluff, MO (January 27, 2026) – A deadly incident early Monday morning in Butler County has claimed the life of a 57-year-old man, after a vehicle struck him along Missouri Route 53, just three miles south of Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 12:01 a.m. on January 26. The pedestrian, a male from Portageville, was outside of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado when a 2005 Ford F-150 began backing up and hit him. Following the initial impact, the pedestrian was then struck by his own vehicle.
Emergency personnel transported the man to Poplar Bluff Regional, where he was pronounced dead at 1:16 a.m. by Dr. Chad Armstrong. His identity has not been publicly released, but next of kin have been notified. Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were towed from the scene by Barker’s Towing.
