Columbia, South Carolina (June 29, 2026) – Three people were injured Friday afternoon after a police pursuit involving the Richland County Sheriff’s Department ended in a multi vehicle crash in Columbia. The collision occurred on June 26 at the intersection of Samson Circle and Wilkes Road following a pursuit that began nearby.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 34 year old Akeem Campbell after he allegedly failed to signal near the intersection of Mason Road and Sinclair Drive. Authorities said Campbell did not stop after deputies activated their emergency lights, leading to a pursuit through the area.
Investigators said Campbell later crashed into two other vehicles near Benedict Street and Farrow Road before fleeing on foot. He was apprehended by a sheriff’s office K-9 and transported to a hospital for treatment of dog bite injuries. Two bystanders were also transported to a local hospital after suffering injuries in the collision. Officials initially indicated that none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
Authorities said Campbell is expected to be booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after his release from the hospital. He faces charges including failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. The crash remains under investigation.
