Newport News, VA (June 29, 2025) — A devastating three-vehicle crash earlier this month has claimed the life of a teenage girl, according to Newport News Police.
According to reports, officers were called to the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and St. Thomas Drive around 7:25 p.m. on June 17 after receiving reports of a multi-car collision. A preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was speeding southbound on Jefferson Avenue while weaving through lanes erratically.
The Equinox collided with an Acura RDX SUV that was traveling in the right-hand lane after turning onto Jefferson Avenue from St. Thomas Drive. The force of the impact caused the Acura to strike a Honda Civic in the adjacent lane.
A 17-year-old girl riding as a passenger in the Equinox suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on June 25. Police said no other major injuries were reported among the other drivers involved. The driver of the Equinox has been charged with driving under the influence, and authorities say additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
