According to reports, Virginia State Police responded to a crash at the intersection of Broad Street and Webster Street just after 8:00 a.m. on June 26. Investigators said Trooper R. Compton was traveling through the intersection when he was hit by another driver who failed to stop at a posted sign.
Emergency crews treated Trooper Compton at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital. He was later released after being treated for injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck the trooper’s cruiser suffered more severe injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital for further care.
