Great Bend, KS (July 12, 2025) — A serious collision involving a semi hauling hay and a pickup truck left one man critically injured Thursday morning northwest of Great Bend.
According to reports, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene around 9 a.m. on July 11 at the intersection of Kansas Highway 96 and 30 Avenue. Deputies say the semi truck was slowing down to make a right turn onto 30 Avenue when a pickup truck crashed into the back of its trailer at a high rate of speed.
The impact left the 20-year-old pickup driver from Great Bend trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle. Emergency crews worked to extricate the young man before transporting him to a local hospital with serious injuries. He was later airlifted to a Wichita hospital for advanced care.
Authorities have not released the driver’s name as the investigation into the crash continues.
