Arroyo Grande, CA – Two Seriously Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 101

Arroyo Grande, CA (January 9, 2025) – Two men, David Berdahl and Anthony Padron, sustained serious injuries in a wrong-way collision on Highway 101 early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The accident occurred at approximately 12:43 a.m. just north of Grand Avenue. Authorities reported that David Berdahl was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 when he collided head-on with a 2009 Jeep Liberty driven by Anthony Padron.

Emergency responders extricated Berdahl from the Ford and transported him to Adventist Health Sierra Vista Hospital with major injuries. The Jeep caught fire following the collision, but Padron managed to escape on his own. He was later transported to Marian Regional Medical Center, also with major injuries.

CHP has indicated that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
