Fresno County, CA (July 8, 2025) — A tragic ATV crash claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy Sunday evening in Fresno County. The accident took place around 6:30 p.m. on July 7 along the San Joaquin Riverbed near the dead end of San Mateo Avenue, just north of Highway 180.
According to reports, two 15-year-olds were riding the ATV when the driver reportedly lost control, causing both teenagers to be ejected into the water. Authorities stated that the passenger was not wearing a helmet at the time and the ATV landed on top of him after the crash.
Instead of being taken immediately to a hospital, the boy was first transported to a home in Mendota for treatment at his family’s request. Hours later, he was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center suffering severe pain but sadly passed away at the hospital. The driver of the ATV and his family are said to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident.
