Leonard, who is homeless, was riding a bicycle southbound on North Pebble Street when he entered the intersection and was struck by an eastbound vehicle.
The vehicle, a passenger car driven by 78-year-old Richard P. Richards of Fremont, was traveling along Military Avenue when the collision occurred. Investigators say the bicyclist failed to yield at a stop or yield sign before the impact.
Leonard was transported by medical personnel to Methodist Fremont Health for treatment. Police cited him for failure to yield at the intersection. No other injuries were reported, and the driver remained at the scene.
