According to reports, the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to calls around 11:17 a.m. on July 2 about a bus crash near Sierra Highway and Avenue C. First responders arrived to find the bus overturned with passengers trapped inside.
Authorities said approximately 20 people were hurt in the crash, including the bus driver, who remains in critical condition at a hospital in the Antelope Valley. Two children and their mother suffered injuries serious enough to require airlifting to Northridge Medical Center for emergency care. The bus was operating on the Line 50 Route for Kern Transit when the crash occurred.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol and Kern Public Works said they believe the crash may have been caused when someone hit or threw an object through the bus’s window, forcing the driver to lose control.
