Lafayette, LA (July 1, 2025) — A weekend crash in Lafayette left multiple people injured after a vehicle struck a pedestrian on an electric scooter and then slammed into a local business.
According to reports, the Lafayette Police Department responded to the scene in the 2000 block of Johnston Street on June 28. Investigators say the vehicle was traveling northbound on Whittington Drive when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at Johnston Street. The vehicle continued through the intersection, striking a pedestrian riding an electric scooter.
After hitting the scooter rider, the car crossed all four lanes of Johnston Street and crashed into the right side of Be True Tattoo, a well-known local tattoo shop. A worker inside the shop was hit during the impact. Both the scooter rider and the tattoo shop worker were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the driver and a passenger in the vehicle were also hospitalized following the crash. The passenger has since been released. The Lafayette Police Department is continuing its investigation to determine what factors led to the driver failing to stop and losing control.
