Bakersfield, CA (August 14, 2025) – An elderly cyclist was struck and killed early Wednesday morning at a southwest Bakersfield intersection, authorities confirmed.
According to reports, the fatal incident occurred around 6:19 a.m. on August 13 at the intersection of Tower Way and Mohawk Street. The Bakersfield Police Department stated that 86-year-old Cecil Morse Walker was riding his bicycle westbound on Tower Way when he reportedly failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the path of a northbound vehicle on Mohawk Street.
The driver of the car was unable to avoid the collision and struck the cyclist. Emergency personnel arrived shortly after and pronounced Walker dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. Police have confirmed that neither speed nor impairment played a role on the part of the driver.
