Cobb County, GA (January 16, 2026) — An early morning highway crash left a Douglas County deputy hospitalized after a dangerous collision on the I-20 westbound exit to Riverside Parkway.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 11, as law enforcement was responding to the end of a vehicle pursuit. A Douglas County deputy had used a PIT maneuver to stop a suspect vehicle on the exit ramp. While a Georgia State Patrol trooper was assisting at the scene, a 2015 Kia Forte approached the area and failed to reduce speed or move over for emergency vehicles.
The Kia sideswiped the deputy’s SUV and then rear-ended the patrol vehicle of the assisting trooper. Both officers were inside their vehicles at the time.
