Columbia, MO (July 2, 2026) – Three people were injured early Sunday morning after a suspected drunk driving crash at the intersection of Broadway and Eighth Street in downtown Columbia. Authorities later arrested a 25 year old Columbia man in connection with the collision.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, officers responded to the crash at approximately 1:11 a.m. on June 28. Investigators said a white sport utility vehicle struck another vehicle from behind at the intersection of Broadway and Eighth Street. The driver of the struck vehicle told officers the driver of the SUV briefly stopped to ask whether everyone was alright before leaving the scene.
The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle reported head, neck, and back pain following the collision. One of the occupants was transported to University Hospital for medical treatment.

According to investigators, Monroe showed signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol. Authorities said he provided a breath sample that measured a blood alcohol concentration of 0.157%.
Prosecutors have charged Monroe with felony counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Physical Injury and Driving While Intoxicated Resulting in Physical Injury. The crash remains under investigation.
