According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 8:50 a.m. on September 1. Investigators said a gray 2008 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway while a black electric bicycle was traveling southbound across Veterans Memorial Highway in the crosswalk from Floyd Road.
Authorities reported the right front of the Mercedes struck the rear tire of the e-bike, causing both the bicycle and the vehicle to go out of control. The Mercedes continued east before coming to a stop in a nearby parking lot, while the electric bicycle came to rest in the right eastbound lane of Veterans Memorial Highway.
Emergency responders transported the seriously injured e-bike rider to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have not released the rider’s identity. The driver of the Mercedes was not injured.
