Ogden, NY (September 10, 2026) – An 88-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle accident that injured four other people Monday afternoon at the intersection of South Union Street and Stony Point Road in Ogden.
According to the New York State Police, Ogden police officers responded to the intersection at approximately 1:36 p.m. on September 7 after a southbound sport utility vehicle collided with a westbound sedan. Emergency personnel arrived to find five people injured in the collision.
Officials identified the passenger in the sedan as Darlene Chappell, 88, of Gates. She was reportedly unresponsive at the scene and was transported along with the other four occupants involved to Strong Memorial Hospital. Authorities said Chappell later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The driver of the sedan, identified as a 74-year-old woman from Chili, remained hospitalized for treatment but was expected to be released. The driver of the sport utility vehicle, a 47-year-old woman from Chili, was also hospitalized. Two juvenile passengers, a 6-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl riding in the sport utility vehicle, were treated for injuries and later released from the hospital.
Investigators determined the driver of the sedan failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign before the collision. Police issued a traffic citation for the alleged violation. Authorities also stated that impairment was not considered a contributing factor in the accident.
