Comanche County, TX (September 10, 2026) – Two people were killed in a head-on accident Friday morning on State Highway 36 near Farm to Market Road 1476 in Comanche County. The collision occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. on September 5 and also left another driver injured.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2020 GMC 2500 pickup truck was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of State Highway 36 while attempting to pass a line of vehicles in a designated no-passing zone. Investigators said the pickup truck collided head-on with a northbound 2020 Kia Sorento.
Authorities identified the driver of the Kia as Rickey Mariott, 75, and the passenger as Bernadine Mariott, 75. Both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials identified the driver of the GMC pickup truck as Adam Guerra Jr., 26. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated following the collision.
Emergency responders remained on State Highway 36 for an extended period while they investigated the accident, assisted those involved, and cleared the roadway. Traffic in the area was affected as crews processed the crash scene.
