Contra Costa County, CA (August 5, 2025) – A single-vehicle crash in the Delta Sunday night claimed the life of a passenger after a Toyota sedan overturned into the Clifton Court Forebay. The driver fled the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, the incident happened around 9:40 p.m. on August 3, near the body of water located southwest of Stockton. CHP officers arrived to find the Toyota overturned and submerged after it veered off a dirt road adjacent to the reservoir.
Investigators believe the vehicle struck several large rocks before flipping and entering the water. One passenger inside the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released.
Authorities say the driver fled the wreckage on foot, and as of now, has not been located. CHP noted that alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact CHP.
