According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on July 31 at the intersection of Avenue 14 and Road 16.
Authorities reported that the 21-year-old Madera man was driving a 2002 Pontiac Firebird southbound on Road 16, while a 57-year-old man was traveling westbound in a 2019 Lincoln Navigator on Avenue 14. Investigators said Avenue 14 has the right-of-way, while Road 16 is controlled by stop signs.
Officials stated that the Pontiac entered the intersection, where it was struck on the driver’s side by the Lincoln. Both vehicles left the roadway after the impact and came to rest in a nearby cornfield.
