Lawrence County, OH (September 27, 2025) – A tragic crash in Union Township sparked a fiery explosion Tuesday night, killing one person and injuring two others after a pickup truck slammed into a home off State Route 243.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened late in the evening on September 23, 2025. A man was driving a pickup truck westbound on State Route 243 when he lost control, veered off the left side of the road, and went over an embankment. The vehicle collided with a propane tank before crashing into a nearby residence.
The impact caused an explosion that engulfed both the truck and home in flames. Inside the house were two occupants. Tragically, 47-year-old Penny White was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant and the truck driver were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital with serious injuries.
Emergency crews battled a large structure fire well into the night. The investigation remains ongoing.
