CHULA VISTA, CA (September 11, 2025) — A tragic overnight crash claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman when the vehicle she was riding in veered off state Route 54 and rolled down an embankment.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle wreck happened just before 1 a.m. on September 10. The car was traveling eastbound on SR-54 near Highland Avenue in Chula Vista when it struck a roadside sign and careened down an embankment.
Paramedics rushed the female passenger to a local hospital, but she was later pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been made public pending family notification. The 20-year-old male driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. His name was not immediately released.
