DAYTON, OH (September 27, 2025) – A deadly overnight crash at a busy Dayton intersection left one man dead and sent two others to the hospital early Friday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 12:04 a.m. on September 27, 2025, at the intersection of Smithville Road and East Third Street. Investigators say a Dodge Ram heading north on Smithville Road ran a red light and struck a white Toyota Camry traveling eastbound on East Third Street.

The force of the crash caused both vehicles to collide with a parked orange Dodge Caliber, pushing it into the walk-in freezer of a nearby Domino’s restaurant. Fortunately, no one inside the restaurant was hurt, and the Caliber was unoccupied at the time.

James Moody, the driver of the Camry, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 33-year-old Ram driver was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A 25-year-old female passenger also sustained minor injuries. Police are investigating speed and OVI as contributing factors.
