Oakland, CA (June 30, 2025) – A violent multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck and at least two other vehicles left one person dead early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
According to reports, the deadly crash occurred at about 3:32 a.m. on June 27 on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 near the Buchanan Street off-ramp. Initial CHP dispatch logs show that a semi-truck and a gray Hyundai Elantra collided in lanes two and three, with debris scattered across the roadway.
Emergency crews responded quickly and found that one vehicle occupant was unresponsive at the scene. Sadly, that person was later pronounced dead by paramedics. At least three vehicles were involved in the collision, including a big rig that suffered major front-end damage. All eastbound lanes were shut down for several hours overnight as crews worked to investigate the scene, clear debris, and coordinate multiple tows, including heavy-duty equipment to remove the big rig.
A hazmat response was also required due to a large amount of blood at the crash site. All lanes were reopened by 6:23 a.m., but traffic delays lingered through the morning commute. The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
