An Audi R8 was traveling eastbound on I-840 when the driver reportedly lost control and veered across the median into the westbound lanes. As the vehicle entered oncoming traffic, it was struck by a westbound Freightliner Cascadia.
Both occupants of the Audi—48-year-old Sonephet Khamsyvoravong and 42-year-old Kevin Kipping, both Tennessee residents—died at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed.
