Sumter County, SC (July 10, 2026) – A head-on collision in Sumter County claimed the life of one driver Monday afternoon and left another hospitalized after two sport utility vehicles collided along Cane Savannah Road.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 6 near the intersection of Cane Savannah Road and St. Pauls Church Road. Investigators said a 2019 Hyundai SUV was traveling north while a 2017 Ford SUV was heading south.
Troopers reported that the Ford crossed left of the centerline and collided head on with the Hyundai. The driver of the Hyundai suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has not yet publicly identified the victim.
The driver of the Ford sustained injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported. Authorities have not said whether either driver was wearing a seat belt, and the reason the Ford entered the opposing lane has not been determined.
