Merced, CA (September 18, 2025) – Two people lost their lives Sunday night in a devastating head-on collision in Merced, according to law enforcement authorities.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. on September 15 along Highway 59, just north of Washington Road. The collision involved two 2019 Toyota Camrys traveling in opposite directions.
28-year-old Susana Esquivel of Atwater was driving southbound when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Alexander Jackson of San Jose.
Both drivers died at the scene from their injuries. No additional vehicles were involved, and there were no reports of other occupants in either car.
