Alturas, CA (December 8, 2025) – A tragic head-on collision Saturday morning along State Route 299 west of Alturas left a local driver dead and two children injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 9:25 a.m. on December 6, when a Ford sedan traveling eastbound on SR 299 drifted into the westbound lane for reasons still under investigation. The Ford then collided with a westbound Kenworth big rig operated by a 65-year-old driver from Klamath Falls, Oregon.
The 56-year-old Alturas driver of the Ford died at the scene. Two children, ages 4 and 2, were passengers in the Ford and sustained injuries. Both were first taken to Modoc Medical Center and later airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center for further treatment. The truck driver was not injured.
