According to reports, the fatal incident occurred Friday, July 5, around 11 p.m. when 62-year-old Devi Weems was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by William Wilson. Investigators said Weems had exited a car on Lott Road when she was hit. Her boyfriend, who was with her that night, said he had tried to convince her to get back into the car, but she was struck as he began driving away.
After the crash, authorities say Wilson fled the scene without stopping to help. A witness who saw the collision followed Wilson’s vehicle home, where Mobile County Sheriff’s deputies later arrested him.
