Vista, CA (July 27, 2025) – A tragic hit-and-run on a North County pedestrian trail has claimed the life of a 27-year-old man, now identified as Maxwell Frederick Rouette, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to reports, the incident occurred early on the morning of July 20. Rouette was found unresponsive along the Inland Rail Trail bike path near 1923 Buena Creek Road in Vista. Authorities say he was struck and killed by a vehicle that veered off the roadway and onto the pedestrian path.
The California Highway Patrol identified 38-year-old Jessica Boykin as the driver of a black Toyota RAV4. She had been traveling westbound on West Mission Road at North Pacific Street in San Marcos when, for reasons still under investigation, she entered the bike path and drove approximately four miles before fatally striking Rouette. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple blunt force injuries.
